Preveza - Tour to Dodoni, Ioannina, Perama cave

We depart in the morning for the beautiful town of Ioannina. 22 km before arriving in the capital town of Epirus, lies the arc. Site of Dodoni. One of the most important - and perhaps the oldest- in Greece. In summer, it is used for drama performances and the site is open to the public every day.

Ioannina is built on the hillside above lake Pamvotis. Its lovely scenery and historic monuments make sightseeing fascinating, enhanced further by the pleasure of watching its jewellers and wood carvers at their traditional crafts.

We shall visit the archaeological museum of Ioannina. Some of the most important exhibits of the museum are: Flint biface "handaxe" of the Acheulean type. It was found at Kokkinopelos and preserves patina on the surface (lenght: 0,215 m.). Dated to the Lower Palaeolithic Period, ca. 200.000 B.P. Marble sarcophagus from Ladochori (district of Thesprotia). Dated to the 2nd century A.D.  Kantharos-shaped cup from grave 5 of tumulus A at Merope-Pogonion (district of Ioannina). Dated to the end of the 11th or the beginning of the 10th century B.C.

A few minutes from Ioannina, is located the Perama Cave. One of the most stunning horizontal caves in the Balkans. After admiring this magnificent cave we drive back to Ioannina in order to have lunch. After lunch free time will be offered before returning back to Preveza and your ship.
