We first visit the famous Byzantine Church of Ekatondapiliani, the “Lady of the hundred doors”, one of the greatest early Christian monuments in Greece. Leaving the Church we wander through the narrow streets of Parikia and visit the Venetian Castle.
Leaving Parikia, we head towards the marble quarries of Marathi, where galleries, chambers and artist’s inscriptions still survive to this day. The Parian Marble was one of the most sought-after materials in classical sculpture and architecture (bright white, fine-grained and translucide). Proceeding inland and upward we come to the enchanting mountain village of Lefkes, built amphitheatrically with its own architectural style, typical doors, stone benches, vaults, wells and cobbled streets, and its numerous old and beautiful churches.
Our final stop is the lovely little fishing village of Naoussa where we will walk through the narrow streets, admire the whitewashed houses and discover the small harbour area with its dozens of little fishing boats.
