Especially created for art lovers, this excursion incorporates two of the best-known collections of Italian Masters in Venice. You’ll meet your local guide at Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, a huge, plain Gothic church that dwarfs the eastern section of San Paolo. Its interior is striking for its sheer size and for the quality of its works of art.
Nearby, sharing the little square with the church bearing the same name, there is the celebrated Scuola Grande San Rocco.
Apart from being a great example of Venetian Renaissance architecture, the Scuola is famous for a series of more then 60 paintings by Tintoretto, so that some have referred to as Venice’s Sistine Chapel. Winning the competition against the old and famous master, Titian, the young Tintoretto worked for more than 23 years at the decoration of the entire building and the two Halls show all the mystical art of this genial artist.
