KEFALONIA ISLAND TOUR & FISKARDO

Located in the west coast, Cephalonia is one of the seven Ionian islands of Greece.

The name of the island is believed to have derived from King Kefalos who founded the island’s four ancient cities : Pronnoi. Sami, Pahli and Krani.

Departing the port of Argostoli on your way to Melissani Lake you’ll pass by the footsteps of the 1628 metres high Enos Mountain, one of the highest mountains in Greece. Enos has been made a National Park and it supports some wonderful wildlife including wild horses, falcons and eagles. You’ll then pass by the ancient city of Sami, Cephalonia’s busiest port and the place where Louis de Bernieres Captain Correlli’s Mandolin famous movie was filmed.

The Melissani Cave is an underground lake, the roof of which collapsed in 1953. When the sun is directly overhead, its rays strike the ultramarine water, shattering into a myriad phantasmagoric colors.Here you’ll get off your bus and enjoy a boat ride along the lake.

At the end of your boat trip you’ll board your awaiting coaches and proceed to the beautiful spot of Myrtos bay where you’ll have the chance for unique landscape shootings. The Myrtos Beach is the most famous on the island and is characterized by its golden sandy crescent and turquoise sea.

You’ll then proceed to the picturesque little port of Fiskardo located on the north east tip of the island. It is the only village to have survived the 1953 earthquake and the Venetian’s architecture is in rich evidence. Here you’ll be given free time to admire the whitewashed shops, balconies decorated with bright flowers, fruit sellers, fishing boats, café bars and tavernas and small craft shops. Then rejoin your buses for the return journey to Argostoli and your ship.
