Igoumenitsa - Tour to Parga - Nekromantion
Depart from the port of Igoumenitsa and head to the archaeological museum. The collection of the Archaeological Museum of Igoumenitsa includes exhibits that cover a long period of human presence in Thesprotia, from the Middle Palaeolithic years until the period of the Ottoman rule (19th cent. AD). However, the majority of the exhibits falls into the Hellenistic period (330/325 - 167 BC).Our next stop and will be Parga. We arrive in this picturesque town, amphitheatrically built. It is surrounded by small coves, beaches, islets and hills. We shall visit its Venetian castle. It is estimated that it was built around the 14th century after the treaty that Pargians signed with the Venetians (to prevent its conquest by Turks), which has made Parga a Venetian possession.
After Parga we are heading to the archaeological site of Nekromantion. Nekromantion ,a sacred place in the valley of the Acheron river, is situated near the village of Mesopotamo. Its aura of mystery was enhanced in ancient times by the conviction that it was one of the entrances to “Hades”. We shall visit the site and Museum of nekromantion.
After visiting Nekromantion and its museum we shall have some free time and then we rejoin the bus to drive back to Igoumenitsa and to the ship.
Note: The museum of Igoumenitsa remains closed on Mondays.
