Excursion to Venizelos Tombs, Therissos – Chania city

You will board your coaches for a drive to Akrotiri (peninsula) on the outskirts of Chania town. On the hill of Prophet Elias you will see the Tomb of Eleftherios Venizelos. Venizelos was an eminent  Greek  revolutionary, who was elected several times as Prime Minister of Greece, serving from 1910 to 1920 and from 1928 to 1932, Venizelos had such profound influence on the internal and external affairs of Greece that he is credited with being "the maker of modern Greece”. From this vantage point you will have the opportunity to admire the beautiful view of the entire town of Chania.

Continuing your tour, you will visit the village of Therissos. The birthplace of Eleftherios Venizelos. The trip to this village follows an impressive ravine about 6 km long. This is the area where major, important battles took place during the period of Turkish domination in the recent history of Crete. In 1866 Mustapha Naily pasha burnt down the village. Certainly the most important historical event was the declaration of the revolution of Therissos in 1905. In the village there is a building of Venizelos Headquarters.

You will then proceed to the town of Chania where you will be guided through the town visiting wonderful sites. Free time will be given for lunch as well as to explore the old town of Chania

Return to the port is about 16.30 in the afternoon.
