Tour in Skyros

Skyros is the largest island of the Sporades with the imposing Chora clinging to its rock on which there is also the Byzantine monastery of Ayios Georgios and the Ancient Castle. Depart from the port of Linaria and drive, by Motorcoach, to visit the capital of the island, Chora. When arriving to Chora you will stop and walk to the entrance of the ancient castle and the Monastery of Ayios Georgios to visit them. Admire from up high the panoramic scenery of Skyros and central Aigaio. You can make a stop at the Byzantine church of Ayia Triada as well.

Continue your trip by visiting the interesting Historical Museum Faltaits which bears the name of the Skyrian philosopher and student of the history and folklore of the island, Manos Faltaits. When finishing your visit in the museum, proceed to the court of eternal poetry where the statue of English poet Rupert Brook is found, which died on the island in 1915.  Move along and visit the Archaeological Museum where rich archaeological exhibits are looked after, which begins from the Neolithic period and cover’s all periods until the Roman Period.

Besides the visit to the museums it is also worthwhile visiting private houses on Skyros. Their interiors are decorated exclusively with products of traditional folk art (carved wooden furniture, ceramics, embroideries and wall hangings).

Return to Chora where there will be free time to visit the city and do some shopping. If there is enough time, according to your program, you can enjoy a swim before your departure at a quiet sandy Bay “Acherounes” and have a snack. There you will find sea umbrellas and armchairs, as well as sea bikes and canoes which you can use. If there isn’t much time left before your departure then you will proceed to the port Linaria.
