Tour to Megalithic Temples of Malta
This tour will get you to the megalithic temples of Malta. The first site is Tarxien Temples , consisted of three separated temple buildings. This site is of unique interest due to the rich and intricate stonework, which includes carved images of domestic animals, spiral designs and other patterns on the altars and walls. Demonstrative of the skill of the builders is a wall depicting a bull and a sow.
The next stop of your tour is Hal Saflieni or 'labyrinth' as it is often called, consisting by a series of elliptical chambers and maze-like corridors . In order for someone to access the corridors , several passages can be used creating a complex site situated 12 metres below street level. The megalithic walls are built by large irregular blocks , some of them reaching the weight of 20 tons.
The last temple is the Hagar Qim Temple site, an ancient megalithic temple complex dated back between 3600 and 3200 BC. The temple is built by big-cut stones and forms a main temple and three additional megalithic structures beside it. Admire the chamber door, the Southern Wall and the altars. The temple is listed among the World Heritage sites by Unesco.
