Tour Ca Rezzonico, Doge's Palace and Saint Mark's Square
Visit, by boat, some of Venice’s best-known buildings.
Begin your walk to the Ca’ Rezzonico Museum, situated in one of the most splendid baroque palaces in Venice. When the Venice City Council bought the museum in 1934, the curators added the 18th century collection from the Correr Museum and many other works from private collections. After this visit, enjoy a guided walking tour through the heart of Venice to Piazza San Marco. Visit the outside of St. Mark’s Basilica where gold mosaic arches rise above the carved, Romanesque portal to the rooftop adorned with five domes.
Enter the Doge’s Palace, the former residence of the Dukes of Venice and the seat of Venetian government from the 9th century until the fall of the Republic in 1797. This graceful palace, richly ornamented both inside and out, dates from the 14th century and is considered by many to be the most exquisite in the world. Climb the famous Golden Staircase to marvel at the painting of Tintoretto and Veronese and wander through the echoing Great Council Chamber where one can enjoy a splendid panorama of the St. Mark’s Basin from the balcony.
Cross the attractively decorated and famous gateway known as the Bridge of Sighs, leading to the prison across the Rio Palazzo. The bridge originally named for the prisoner’s fate, is now often referred to for romance.
