Piraeus Port new Passengers’ Terminal
The second passenger terminal in Greece’s largest port, Piraeus is actually a fact. A new meeting point for cruise passengers, that will upgrade the quality level of services provided, will be inaugurated on Monday, May 27th 2013, by the Greek Minister of Marine.
The new building with an area of 5,600 m², is going to welcome the passengers of large cruise ships which dock at the piers Alkimos, Palataki and Themistocles's in the main cruise port. Named after the great Athenian politician and general, the new cruise terminal of Piraeus port, is one of the many promising infrastructure for the years to come.
A big step in upgrading cruise services
With the operation of the second cruise terminal, the Piraeus Port Authority will be able to serve up to 25,000 passengers per day while by the end of the year it is expected to be completed the construction of a third cruise station. With the new extension of the piers, it is estimated that Piraeus port, converted in terms of passengers’ service and cruise ship docking, becomes the most important hub among Mediterranean cruise ports, according to the President and CEO of Piraeus Port Authority.
New modernised facilities open to cruise visitors
The new Cruise Terminal offers large entrance and exit areas for the passengers as well as modern control systems, spacious tourism bus, taxi and private vehicles parking areas. Starting from Monday the new meeting point will be set from the Gate E12 with the reasonable expectations that the new developed facilities, will contribute the most at the growth of cruise sector.
Ambitious planning for reinforcement of Piraeus port
The plan of Marine Ministry in cooperation with Piraeus Port Authority includes continuous upgrades and aesthetic interventions since the “cruise factor” has been set, under the pressing economic circumstances at the centre of interest. It is calculated that by the end of 2013, when also the third cruise terminal station will be completed, all three of them will cover an area of 15,500 m².
