Kos-Tour to Asklepeion & Archeological Museum

Depart the ship and enjoy a panoramic drive through the city before arriving at the famous Plane Tree of Hyppocrates. Here leave your motorcoach and listen to your guide as he/she tell you of the belief beneath this tree, the well known physician of the ancient world, Hyppocrates, taught his pupils. However, in reality, the tree is actually only 500 years old and grew on the exact spot where once grew a much older plane tree, which bore the fame to our days. As you follow your guide, walk a short distance to arrive at the archeological museum, which houses relics discovered at excavations which carried out on the island. See the collection Hellenistic and Roman sculptures, including a statue of Hyppocrates. Outside, at the centre of the court-yard, marvel at the mosaic, this represents both Hyppocrates and Asklepios.

 Return to your motorcoach and continue on to the Aklepeion. Upon arrival, walk on the terraces of this important sanctuary of the God, Asculapius, the healer and son of Apollo and along with your guide, see the remains of the monumental altar, situated on the third terrace. This altar was dedicated to Asculapius. Asklepeion built in the late 4^th Century BC to commemorate the skills of Hyppocrates was both the place of worship and treatment centre served by eminent priesthealers, the Asklepiades, who formed a famous medical school in antiquity. Afterwards, walk back to your motorcoach and drive a short distance to the central part of Kos island in order to visit Zia, a charcteristic village, which lies 400 meters above sea level, on the slopes of Mount Dikaios. Here, free time will be given, allowing you to marvel at the exquisit natural scenery and beautiful views of Kos. Enjoy coffee or refreshment at one of the main tavernas or cafes. Return to the port and if time permits, wonder around through the shops located close to the port.
