KEFALONIA: TOUR TO AGHIOS ANDREAS –WINERY- MELISSANI- SAMI

Starting from the port of Argostoli, drive up the slopes of Mount Ainos. You reach the Monastery of Aghios Andreas and stop for a visit. After the visit to the monastery you will get to Rombola Wineries, where a stop for a short tour around the winery will take place. Here you’ll have a true insight into the production methods of the famous local “Rombola” Wine followed by a complimentary taste of the wine. From there you take the road passing by the traditional village of Fragata leading up to Mount Ainos where the unique “Abies Cefalonica” (fir tree) forest lies.

You will be able to view part of the forest on the peak of Mount Ainos from the coach as we pass by. Afterwards you’ll take the coastal road leading to the Cave Lake of Melissani in Karavomylos. On arrival, in the company of your guide, you will walk the short distance down the tunnel leading to the underground lake where you will board the small wooden boats for the short trip around the lake and the surrounding caves.

The tour then continues to the coastal summer resort of Sami on the north-eastern shores of the island, where the blockbuster movie “Captain Corelli’s Mandolin” was filmed. Here, you may rest at one of the “kafenions” (traditional coffee shops) by the old port (coffee or local wine & “mandolata” to be offered – optional)  as well as some free time to walk around the “prokymaia” for some souvenir shopping, before you board your coaches for the return transfer back to Argostoli
