Igoumenitsa - Tour to Nikopolis - Kassiopi - Kamarina (ZALOGO)

In the morning we depart from the port of Igoumenitsa in order to visit the Archaeological Museum of Igoumenitsa. The collection of the Archaeological Museum of Igoumenitsa includes exhibits that cover a long period of human presence in Thesprotia, from the Middle Palaeolithic years until the period of the Ottoman rule (19th cent. AD). However, the majority of the exhibits falls into the Hellenistic period (330/325 - 167 BC).Our next stop will be Ancient Nikopolis,8 km far from the town of Preveza. Nikopolis was built the 1^st century BC and the strategic position of this city was the reason that became one of the largest decorative and commercial centres . Many findings from Nikopolis are exhibited at the Archaeological museum, which is located inside the site.

Kassiopi is 20 KM north from Nikopolis. The size of the city, the agora, two theatres, and prytaneion, unearthed by archaeologists, all indicate that it was the tribe’s cultural centre. The hill of Zalogo rises on the east of the site. In this exact place on December 18 1803, when Ali Pasha, the Turkish governor arrived, a crowd of women along with their children , instead of choosing dishonor and captivity, threw themselves from the cliff after a dance,known as the “Zalogo’s Dance”.

After the visit of Kassiopi,we shall make a stop in Kamarina village, where we shall have some free time for a coffee or a soft drink.

Then, we rejoin the bus and drive back to the port of Igoumenitsa.
